Overview
Officially launched in 1999, “Managing Successful Programmes” (MSP®) is a guide that provides and maintains a strategic view over the set of projects, aligning and co-ordinating them within a programme of business change in support of specific business strategies.
Who is the course designed for?
This two day course is intended for anyone in, or aspiring to, a senior role within a programme. This includes Programme Managers or Programme Directors, and other key staff involved in the design, development and delivery of programmes, including Business Change Managers and Programme Office Managers. Anyone who already has a good understanding of the principles and theory of the MSP® manual, supported by practical application within a programme environment, will benefit from this course.
The OGC Managing Successful Programmes method is flexible and adaptable for any type and size of programme where a business "vision" is the required outcome.
What are the pre-requisutes?
Candidates must have already passed the MSP® Foundation and Practitioner Examinations. This event provides a workshop environment for preparing for the MSP® Advanced Practitioner Examination.
What is the course approach
This event is a mixture of delivery and workshop sessions, delivered by an APMG MSP® approved trainer. All trainers have practical experience of managing programmes. Practical sessions are on an individual and team basis and feature throughout the event. The examination is taken on day two and the results are usually available from the APM Group within six weeks.
Due to the intense nature of this course, delegates should plan to commit approximately 1 hour each evening during the course for study and review.
What examinations are taken on the course?
Advanced Practitioner
Exam The 2½ hour MSP® Advanced Practitioner Exam consists of up to three compulsory questions from the syllabus. The examination will be based on a complex scenario (MSP®Care) which will be issued as part of the pre-course materials and used during the training course. Additional material in the form of reports, documents, statements, etc. may also be provided for analysis as part of an examination question. The examination is ‘open book’ and other material in the form of course notes, examples, copies of presentations, etc. can be used during the exam.
What does the course cover?
Pre-course
Delegates will be provided with a set of pre-course materials which includes the case study (MSP®Care) for the Advanced Practitioner Exam. Materials will include exercises and questions which will deepen the delegate’s knowledge of MSP® and allow the delegate to use their MSP® knowledge to explore the case study by drawing on their own experience. The outputs from these exercises will be used in the classroom event. Delegates will be expected to have completed at least 10 hours pre-course work for this event.
Course
The structure of the course is intended to build on delegate’s existing MSP® Practitioner knowledge and experience as well as on their pre-course work. The course will cover all aspects of the MSP® Advanced Practitioner syllabus, and will include:-
- Workshops and exercises which are intended to give delegates practical experience of applying MSP® using the MSP®Care case study.
- Sample questions, to develop deeper understanding of MSP®, the MSP®Care case study, and prepare for the Advanced Practitioner exam.
